Middle Head Bunkers – Ten years on

So it’s been over ten years since the original excursion to the Middle Head Bunkers. And I thought it would be a good idea to go back and check out what’s changed.

There is an obvious push to restore and protect the site. There are a lot more gates and blocked off sections. But you can still get underground and explore. For now.

This entrance above was filled with dirt and debris on our original visit. Now it’s completely cleared and you can even see bits of the old iron roof that used to sit over part of the walkway. Exterior shots of this are below

The muddy footprints are still there. 😛

This is the most exciting thing. This area was completely buried with only a small gap in which we used to squeeze through for access. But they are now working to clear out the buried gun emplacement. You can still get access to the complex through here. But I dare say they will install gates once they are done.

Above ground the surprises keep coming. The area around the old buried emplacement has been cleared of the dense bush.

They have even uncovered more of the installation.

Sorry I dont have a better shot of this pit. But it’s just a pit with a pole sticking out of it.

I could not see the bottom of this vent. And it didnt seem to connect to any of the rooms visited.

No poop, a stalagmite is forming.
